Job Description Psychologist
at EC2 Saba
Primary purpose:
EC2 has a multi-disciplinary team, the psychologist serves as a crucial coordinator and integrator within a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that children with additional needs receive the care and education they need.
The psychologist collaborates closely with immediate colleagues and stakeholders. His/her responsibility is to facilitate communication, provide psychological expertise, and help bridge any gaps between different service providers. Additionally, he/she acts as a sparring partner, offering guidance, support, and expertise to colleagues and external professionals. By promoting shared understanding and coordinated efforts, he/she ensures that the child’s needs are met in a holistic and integrated way.
1. Core tasks
- Identify at-risk students and school vulnerabilities
- Perform psycho-educational diagnostics.
- Assess psychological needs and strengths of students in the school environment.
- Provide therapy services to students.
- Counsel students with socio-emotional or specific behavior challenges.
- Contribute to the individual plans of students (guidance plan, IEP, IDP).
- Observe interaction between teacher/assistant and student and provide strategies.
- Support contact between schools, parents and stakeholders.
- Crisis preparedness, response and recovery interventions
2. Planning tasks
- Assesses the individual needs of children and students in the local schools in the field of behavior, well-being, cognitive ability and development.
- Assessments for transition K2 – Gr 1 and Gr 6 – SCS.
- Assist in navigating special education processes (ISE program).
3. Guidance tasks
- Assess school climate and improve school connectedness
- Advise and give guidance to teachers based on the psycho-educational needs of the students.
- Provide assistance to teachers in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodation for students.
- Presents information, demonstrates and teaches behavior modification skills to teachers and teacher assistants.
- Gives guidance to children with special behavior or developmental needs in the classroom and in the ISE classroom.
- Connect families with community service providers when necessary.
4. Organization tasks
- Evaluate and/or translate research into practice and understand research design and statistics in sufficient depth to plan and conduct investigations and program evaluations for improvement of services.
- Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain consistent and accurate documentation for student files.
- Create protocols and formats for clear and precise documentation.
- Use the vision of EC2 as a guiding compass, directing the team’s efforts toward a common goal and ensuring that all actions and decisions align with the overarching values and mission.
- Lead and develop Social Emotional Learning programs (SEL)
5. Knowledge and experience
- Able to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Maintains regular contact with teachers, parents, and colleagues.
- Creates a safe and positive learning environment for children.
- Gives constructive feedback.
- Able to monitor and report on progress verbally and in writing.
- Makes observations and uses creative ways to teach new skills to teachers.
- Maintains professional ethics and systems.
5. Requirements
- Relevant master’s degree in psychology, special pedagogy or behavior sciences. (or Orthopedagogiek)
- Ample work experience with children with behavior and developmental challenges.
- Able and qualified to give individual counseling/therapy.
- Has knowlede of trauma sensitive therapy and/ or coaching and teaching
- Has knowledge of the current student care system on Saba or will comply with it shortly.
- Able and qualified to perform psycho-educational diagnostics.
- Experienced in positive psychology / pedagogy.
Details
- Full-time position (40 hours/week) (part time can be discussed)
- Salary scale OOP BES (Onderwijs Ondersteunend Personeel BES): Depending on experience, Scale 10 or 11
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) with an educational profile and references will be required
- The initial contract is for one year, with a possibility of extension based on a positive review and availability of funding.
